Below are some of the reviews and comments we’ve received here at the STEEL SPIRIT web site...

Steven Pershing has all the moxie one would expect from someone who would like to be remembered as Egg Harbor Township’s answer to Steven Spielberg. Pershing spent five years of weekends making an action-adventure movie with plenty of comedy, using a Sony Handycam, a computer, his imagination, and plenty of help from his friends, relatives, and neighbors. STEEL SPIRIT, filmed at the Atlantic City Race Course, Birch Grove Park, and other local haunts, is a labor of love. Taking into account the fact the movie was made with practically no money, the film, which was shown last May (2002) at the Tilton 9 Theater and this week at the Atlantic City Film Festival, is an impressive accomplishment and demonstrates the ingenuity of Pershing. As of now this former construction worker plans to continue his dream in Los Angeles.

Just watched it. What a great movie!  I can't believe you shot it
all with a trusty Sony HandyCam!
Some of our favorite scenes/lines are: 1. “It's gotta be the hair..." 2. The Duster Scene 3."Well, so much for the ninjas..." and the whole ninja scene. and 4.The Lightsaber Duel. Hats off to you and your team, you all did a fabulous job!!!
We would love to show STEEL SPIRIT at an upcoming Sci-Fi Convention here in Lexington, Kentuckey. What would set up would you need from us to facilitate this?  We are working on a deal with a local theatre to see if we can use their facilities, but that hasn't firmed yet. Something else that comes to mind would be if you might consider coming as a speaker to perhaps talk to your soon-to-be-fans about what it takes to make a movie, or some aspect that you found more interesting than the others (special effects, easier ways to overcome problems, etc.). We can also set you up with a booth/table to sell those DVDs you are going to have soon.

I would really like to buy a copy of your movie when it is
available--and if you will be selling copies.  The movie trailer was
awesome. As a former radio/TV/film major from the University of
North Texas, I can really appreciate the variety of shots and editing
decisions that you presented in the trailer. Yeah, your music
composer has real talent, too.  Best of luck to you and your crew.
I'm shooting an Elijah thing at a church tonite, but wish I was doing
something as interesting as your project instead.

It cheered me up to find you website. It makes me feel good to be doing what I'm
doing- when I know there is guys like you "fighting the good fight" and busting
your ass just to make a low budget movie you can be proud of. My brother and I
downloaded your preview last night. COOL! COOL! COOL! I think you've got a
definite chance of selling your movie to some independent markets! The cover
alone to STEEL SPIRIT is enough to get people excited!

I'm crawling around the net for potential low budget movies to distribute. Yours
looks interesting... can we talk more about it?

My observaitons....
You did so much with so little....(money), you have a wonderful screen face and
voice on the screen (although I did have a hard time hearing some of the
dialogue) I'm sure that is correctable. A blood bath for sure - how did you get
the thin looking blood to drool Jen Rockelmann - really good - a beautfiful girl
and convincing... your screen "brother" very, very convincing actor. Loved the
outfit Dallas sure was a scary looking character.
I'm so proud of you and your talent... you are famous in my family.

Much Love

Watched the movie last night. It was excellent, the effects were awesome. I
liked how you used camera tricks to add effects that would of cost a fortune to
do. And finally I think your performance was the best out of all em.Character
development was top notch which alot of action films lack today. Reminds me of
those sweet 80's action flicks that were bad ass.

Steve, I am so proud of you. The movie was great.

The film was a tremendous amount of fun! I'm in awe of he amount of
effort that went into it and even more the actual realization of the film. I
was really impressed by some of the effects that you were able to create.  I
thought that there were moments of sheer brilliance. I hope that this can be
a springboard to big things for you. What is your next step and when are the
video's going to be available? (you should have handed out flyers after each
show) Count me in for one!

The movie was great, the one liners kicked ass, your facial expressions were
priceless, and the cinematography was really spectacular in my opinion.  I can't
get that damned line out of my head! "Close your eyes, count to ten, and pray to
God you never see me again." Friggin' great! And I loved the "lightsaber duel"... hehe  And who hasn't wondered why Chewie and the droids got nothing as a reward at the end of Star Wars?  LOL. Anyway, I really enjoyed your movie and hope you keep pushing forward and kicking ass! My brother loved it too. He came home a few nights ago and was going on and on about it. Hehe. And for CHRIST'S SAKE!!! Will you retire that friggin' Duster?!?! LOL. It's served it's time for God and Country already! LET IT DIE!!!  LOL

Great job putting STEEL SPIRIT together.
Good explosion too, still aren't sure if that was CGI or a real one superimposed....
Keep up the good work,

Just want to say congratulations.  It was good seeing you in the Lobby on
Tuesday night. My brother really enjoyed it and was going to be telling his
workmates to catch it as well. I am glad I got to see it again because I had
forgotten some of the great lines. The clip from CN8 was great. I'll be
watching for more info on DVD releases, etc. Good for you!!

You definitely have to let it run in the theater again! Can you
duplicate the success in other theaters? Remember Rocky Horror!  It sounds
like there is a legitimate local following can you use that to create a faux
frenzie to stir up media attention.  How common is it that a handycam film
makes it to the big screen? This should be worthy of some national curiosity
even if it starts just as human interest.  Let me know if I can be of any
help even if it's just moral support.

Good luck! Gerry

HI STEVE ! SAW STEEL SPIRIT AT TILTON. THOUGHT YOU DID A GREAT JOB PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER. CAST AND CREW DID A GREAT JOB.CONGRATULATIONS ON A JOB WEEL DONE ! WHEN IS THE NEXT PERSHING PRODUCTION ? HOPE IT'S SOON.
GOOD LUCK,
RICH M.

We didn't get a chance to send our congratulations in writing. We were so
impressed with your movie and enjoyed being there during that special time for
you.   It is obvious that you have great talent and hope that this is only the
beginning of great things ahead for you.
Getting back to Steel Spirit, I had to laugh when I saw the two brooms on the
2nd floor grandstand, north end. It was probably the first time in 10 years
that a broom was seen in that location.
When is the DVD version going to be going out?

Sincerely,
John and Dierdre

I saw your interview on cable May 10th.  I admire your determination,
perseverance, and commitment to your dreams. The best of luck to you in all of
your endeavors and Godspeed. Inch by inch everything is a cinch.

Hello, first of all I want to say how much I enjoyed seeing the progress of
this film. It is really inspirational! I am a young screenwriter and I am
about to go into production of my first independent feature. Is there a certain
camera you recommend? Also what festivals have you sent your film to? I myself
was accepted to the SLAMDANCE film festival for my second screenplay and I
highly recommend you consider it for yourself. Keep up the amazing work!

Des

I really enjoyed your movie. I thought the plot was well developed, and your
props were great. I think you did an incredible job with what you had available to work with.  Knowing the background of you and how the film got to be made brings so much more to the film.

Jason

It was great meeting you and sitting in on a couple panels with you at the
conference. I didn't get a chance to chat with you after your screening but I
wanted to say that I enjoyed your movie. Steel Spirit is everything you want it
to be. Let's keep in touch. You never know what might happen in the future. I
think you added a great deal to the panels, at least the ones I was on. I got a
lot of good feedback from attendees and, at least for me, there was a lot of
good networking. Hey, we're doing that right now! We will keep in touch.

Mark Turner gave me the copy of the film to view. First off - what an
accomplishment. It blows me away that you did the entire film on the Sony
Handyman. Incredible! Loved the action! It was just funny enough, just campy enough, just emotional enough to make me give it a thumbs up.

You'll do well in LA. Are you moving there permanently? You have a Nicholas
Cage/Bruce Willis thing going. We'll definitely keep you in mind as things
progress here.
Congratulations - and best of luck in LA.

Hello, i just saw your movie of jason vs. mike myers, i just wanted to tell o
thought it rocked

josh

Well I just finished watching you Michael Myers vs Jason Voorhies short film,
and I must say I found it to be quite humorous, and at the same time wondering
how would you figure that Jason would win? Now I am glad that someone out there
would do this because it is truely meant to be funny. I also have a movie
project in mind, which would be obviously a Michael Myers/Halloween movie. I
hope you decide to do more films that include horror icons like Myers and Jason,
and also Freddy, and others. Keep up the good work guys.

Shawn
