GUNNERY SERGEANT BRIAN R. PAPAKIE

GySgt Papakie was born on 20 December 1972, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1991 (Delayed Entry), and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon completion of recruit training he was assigned to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. In February 1992, he attended the Correctional Specialist School, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas where he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

During April 1992, GySgt Papakie was assigned to the Marine Corps Base Brig, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, VA. His duty assignments included Dormitory Supervisor, Special Quarters Supervisor, and Master Control NCO.  In June 1994, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.  In December 1994, he was assigned to the Joint Forces Brig, Okinawa Japan.  There he was assigned as Roundhouse NCO, Senior Escort, and Watch Supervisor.  During February 1996, he returned from Okinawa and was assigned to Marine Corps Base Brig, Camp Lejeune, NC. His duty assignments included Special Quarters NCOIC, Senior Escort and Watch Supervisor.  In June 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  In July 1996, GySgt Papakie returned to Lackland Air Force Base to attend Counselor School. Upon returning to the Camp Lejeune Brig, he was assigned as a Prisoner Counselor. In May of 1997 he was assigned to the Correctional Custody Unit at Stone Bay and was responsible for the counseling of awardees for direction, motivation, and education.

During April of 1998, GySgt Papakie was assigned to the Marine Corps Absentee Collection Unit, Security and Law Enforcement Branch, Headquarters Marine Corps Washington DC to serve as a Cross Country Chaser and Deserter Investigator.  GySgt Papakie was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 1999 and was assigned as the Operations SNCOIC for the San Diego, CA, Chicago, IL and Washington DC Absentee Collection Units where he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.  In August 2004, he attended the Crisis and Hostage Negotiators School at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

During October of 2004 GySgt Papakie attended Drill Instructor School class 1-05.  Upon completion of Drill Instructor School was assigned to Delta Company, First Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment where he successfully completed three green belt Drill Instructor cycles. In March of 2005 GySgt Papakie attended the Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival School at Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA where he graduated as the Honor Graduate of the class.  GySgt Papakie was promoted to his current rank in September of 2005.  In January of 2006 he was assigned to Instructional Training Company, Support Battalion and attended the Marine Combat Instructor Trainer of Water Survival School. GySgt Papakie is currently serving as the Depot Swim Tank SNCOIC. 

GySgt Papakie’s personal awards consist of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal. 

He is married to the former Cheryl Lynn White of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.
